Welcome to Butterflies Class 🦋
A very warm welcome to our Butterflies Class, Gorsewood’s KS1 Speech, Language and Communication Needs Inclusion Base.
All children in Butterflies class have an EHCP with a primary need of SLCN. We provide a nurturing, communication-friendly and sensory-rich environment where each child can learn in a way that is right for them.
Our children follow a bespoke curriculum based upon the Sensory Curriculum, with lots of learning taking place through purposeful play, exploration and children's own interests. Children develop their skills through phonics, mathematics and engaging topics, but we also recognise the importance of following their interests. We use children's individual interests and experiences as a starting point for learning, helping them to make connections, remain engaged and develop their knowledge and skills in ways that are meaningful to them.
In Butterflies Class, communication is at the heart of everything we do. We provide a language-rich environment and use a Total Communication approach so that every child has opportunities to understand, communicate, make choices and participate in their learning.
Choice is an important part of our day. From the moment children arrive, they are supported to make choices about their learning, explore activities that interest them and choose where they feel most comfortable accessing learning within the classroom. Learning takes place both inside and outside, so we like children to come to school prepared with wellies and coats.
In Butterfly Class, we celebrate every small step and every big achievement. We want our children to feel happy, safe, understood and proud of everything they achieve.
