Read Write Inc - Phonics

“Read Write Inc. Phonics is a complete literacy programme, for 4 to 7 year-olds learning to read and write and for 7 and 8 year-olds needing to catch up quickly.”

 

All children on the program are assessed and grouped according to their reading ability. Below are the sounds that you can expect your child to be able to read, after a few weeks in the first colour band of each set.

Set 1 sounds  Red Ditty books, Green

Set 2 sounds Purple, Pink and Orange

ay, ee, igh, ow (blow), oo (zoo),

y (party), wh, mb, wr, kn, ph

 

Set 3 sounds Yellow, Blue, Grey

ea, oi, a-e, i-e, ai, o-e, ai, oa,

ue, aw, are, ur, er, ow (cow), ew, ire,

ear, ure, le, ue, au, ie, oe, e-e, ey, ould

Children are assessed 4/5 times a year to ensure correct groupings and monitor progression.
