Welcome to Year 4!
Staff: Miss Gleave and Miss Yates
In Literacy, we will be using the Literacy and Language scheme to look at lots of different texts, fiction and non-fiction.
In Maths, we will be using Maths No Problem to cover all of the strands within Maths. This format allows us to use different methods to answer problems, from concrete to written methods.
In History, we will be travelling through time from the Romans to Anglo-Saxons, Vikings and Scots and bringing it all together in the final term with Crime and Punishment through the ages.
In Geography, we have a local study of rivers, followed by rainforests and then tie it all together in the final term for the Amazon Rainforest.
Science will cover states of matter, electricity, living things and their habitats followed by conservation, sound and animals, including humans. Animals, including humans will focus on food and digestion.
PE will cover a range of skills and sports, using previous knowledge and skills to keep building.
RE will cover Christianity, BUddhism, Islam, Sikhism and Judaism looking at a key concept for each topic.
In PSHE, we will be learning about positive friendships, including online, responding to hurtful behaviour; managing confidentiality; recognising risks online, respecting differences and similarities; discussing difference sensitively, what makes a community; shared responsibilities, how data is shared and used, making decisions about money; using and keeping money safe, maintaining a balanced lifestyle; oral hygiene and dental care, physical and emotional changes in puberty; external genitalia; personal hygiene routines; support with puberty, medicines and household products; drugs common to everyday life.
Art will cover shades and tints, printing, craft and design.
In DT, we will be designing and building a slingshot car, adapting a recipe and fastenings within textiles.
Music will cover singing, written notation, introduction to structure and programme music, composition and performances.
Drama is taught throughout the year with the children covering all aspects of acting, reading scripts, set design and performing.
There are lots of exciting things to look forward to this year.
TTRS is going to be a large focus for Year 4 this year and we will have weekly competitions for the best scores, most improved and others. Use this link to access TTRS: https://play.ttrockstars.com/
Homework will be sent out on a Monday and will be due in the following Monday. There will be a selection of tasks within the homework and it will be sent out on Google Classroom.
PE will take place twice a week. PE should be worn to school on PE days. During the Spring term, Year 4 will be taking part in swimming and Forest School.
